To better understand the people's needs as of now, we asked the foundation psychologist, Yulia Yakunina, to tell about the change in the people's requests. We also asked to give a couple of recommendations about how to get back in balance as much as it is possible now.
⠀
? How do you feel, do you know what are the main people's requests in terms of psychological help now? What are the main questions?
⠀
Among those who asked my help, the main questions are:
* How to cope with anxiety, nervousness, fear?
* How to talk to children about the war?
* What to do when a child has a traumatic experience?
* How can I live in the war?
* How can I start a new life as I left my hometown?
* How to avoid panic overeating?
* How to talk to the relatives who stay in the 'hot' regions?
⠀
? Do you feel an increased demand for psychological help now?
⠀
From what I see, the demand is mostly from the people who visited psychological consultations before the war + we've got people, who are currently in the active conflict zones, those who experience difficulties in the stress situations, and those, who suffer anxiety disorders.
⠀
? Could you share some practical advices, exercises for the people at this period?
⠀
* Minimize the time you spend reviewing the news, for example, read the news feed in the morning and in the evening.
* If it's possible, dedicate the rest of your time to the things you usually did before: cleaning, cooking, washing dishes, etc.
* If you haven't exercised before, now it's a good moment to start or continue doing it, same for dancing and/or singing: it helps to feel your own body and improves your mood, relieves your body from stress.
* Go for a walk, talk to the people who can/want to listen to you and support you.
* Start some creative activity: embroidery, drawing, modeling, etc.
* Do not enter disputes, minimize your communication with the people, who stir up the situation, if you are prone to anxiety.
* In the moments of panic, make some breathing exercises, at least start breathing deeply and slowly. It will bring back the feeling of your own body and relieve the stress.
* If you have childern, play with them, view some animation together, read books and tales.
⠀
The foundation provides psychological support for the displaced children and adults, children with the difficult childhood, and shelter employees. We'll continue these activities while we have requests for such help.
⠀
You can join our efforts and help us conduct psychological sessions with whoever needs them.
